12-YEAR-OLD TAEKWONDO ATHLETE EYES YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES

Olympafrica’s rising taekwondo player Matilda Njobvu says her goal is to compete at the Youth Olympic Games and the world championship in future.

The twelve-year-old girl who competes in the 34kg weight category in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge at OYDC has in the last few weekends been recording outstanding defeats after competing with her opponents.

On Saturday 16 July 2022, she fought Esther Nambela of team OYDC and won the fight making spectators cheer at her for the super kicks and stance.

Her coach James Mwewa says the athlete is consistent with training and very attentive whenever she is fighting. Mwewa indicated that if well nurtured, his athlete stands a good chance to compete in major competitions in future.

And losing candidate Esther Nambela became emotional after the loss. She attributed the loss to a foul she committed while in action which she says should have never happened.

OYDC Zambia on Saturday organised other games in judo, football and netball engaging youths below the age of seventeen in a competition dubbed Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.
