Baseball 5 launched at OYDC Zambia
The Zambia Baseball and Softball Association (ZBSA) on Friday 22 April 2022 launched the sports discipline at the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development to add it to the other over 20 sports codes.
Association General Secretary Kenny Matishi disclosed that the sport is not new in Zambia but wants to utilize OYDC facilities to nurture more athletes who can be targeted for Youth Olympic Games in future.
Matishi added that the Baseball 5 is interesting and can be enjoyed by all age groups of athletes.
Meanwhile, National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Treasurer Victor Banda who represented committee president Alfred Foloko said the move to launch the sport at OYDC is commendable.
He said there is a need to continue to leverage and maximize the rich pool of talent that the country is endowed with by identifying and supporting the development of talented young athletes.
After the launch, OYDC Management was presented with baseball5 materials which were received by the programmes manager Mwange Kampamba who paid gratitude to the association for launching the sport at the Centre.
And Zambia Sports Development Association representative Dionne Rennie applauded Zambia Baseball and Softball Association for launching the sport at OYDC saying this will help enable more talented athletes from surrounding communities to take part in well-organized training and competitions.
The launch was attended by several athletes, and representatives of Olympafrica, national federations, media, and Schools & Universities.
