Olympic movement in Zambia commemorate “Olympic Day”

The Olympic movement in Zambia today joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 70th anniversary of “Olympic Day”. It was a thrilling moment as over 500 children representing different schools and sport organisations jubilated and participated in football, health walk/running, fun & movement games, hockey, aerobics, and taekwondo. Youths commemorate day of an African child

Hundreds of youths who thronged the OYDC today were jubilant as they commemorated the National Day of the African Child. The theme for the commemoration was ” Leave No Child Behind for Zambia’s Development”. The celebrations were characterised with sport, music, culture, poetry, modeling and fun & movement games. OYDC hosts Defence force day celebrations

The Ministry of Defence is celebrating the 42nd “Defence Force Day” being conducted at the Olympic Youth Development Centre. The theme for this year’s sports celebrations is “Promoting National Peace and Unity through Friendship in Sports”. The celebrations have seen Defence officers from Zambia Army, Zambia Air force and Zambia National Service compete in football, netball, tug of war, basketball and volleyball. Basketball players impress coach

Teulings Basketball coordinator Nicolas Phiri, is happy with the skills the boys and girls are acquiring out of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge staged at the Olympic Youth Development Centre. Phiri, disclosed that today’s 3 v 3 basketball games saw Mapoloto, Breathe of Heaven, Warriors, Matero Magic and Leopards taking part. The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge is an ongoing league where athletes from communities surrounding the OYDC compete in basketball, tennis, beach volleyball and hockey.

Sports minister launches IJF “judo coaching practicals”

The minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere, was at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) on the 8th June, 2018 to officially open the International Judo Federation “Judo coaching course” organized by the Zambia Judo Association. The minister said he was elated to officially open the course which he says will help participants acquire the knowledge to improve the standards of judo in the country. OYDC set to host IJF “judo coaching practicals”

The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) will from 6th to 12th June, 2018 host the International Judo Federation (IJF) “Judo coaching practicals” level 1 and 2 which has attracted over 70 participants. The coaching course has been hosted at the OYDC since 2016 and engages participants from English speaking African countries who will be instructed by six International Judo Federation experts. Some of the countries which will be represented include; Zimbabwe, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Seychelles, Gabon and Zambia the host nation. Zambia Judo Association [...]

Meet Queen Sakala tennis player

17 year old tennis player Queen Sakala, training at the OYDC on Saturday, 2 June, 2018. Queen, started playing tennis at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) and participated in the U15 Teulings Youth Sports Challenge. Her passion and love for tennis is an inspirational to many athletes who access the #OYDC facilities. The centre has over 19 sports disciplines which include; Basketball, Taekwondo, Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Rugby, Handball, Hockey and Football.

OYDC hosts Teulings hockey

10 hockey teams this morning took part in the Teulings Hockey league games. The games attracted teams like Arch, Evergreen and City in the under 12 age category. The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge is usually conducted at the #OYDC and runs up to October when the grand finale is hosted.

OYDC hosts high performance football cup

43 Football players on Wednesday were at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) for the high performance “football cup” Games. The teams which train from the Centre impressed OYDC programmes officer Lyson Zulu. Zulu says the numbers and consistence of the performance football unit is encouraging and has urged other aspiring football players from communities surrounding OYDC to come and utilise the multi-sports facility.
