OYDC set to host IJF “judo coaching practicals”

The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) will from 6th to 12th June, 2018 host the International Judo Federation (IJF) “Judo coaching practicals” level 1 and 2 which has attracted over 70 participants. The coaching course has been hosted at the OYDC since 2016 and engages participants from English speaking African countries who will be instructed by six International Judo Federation experts. Meet Queen Sakala tennis player

17 year old tennis player Queen Sakala, training at the OYDC on Saturday, 2 June, 2018. Queen, started playing tennis at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) and participated in the U15 Teulings Youth Sports Challenge. Her passion and love for tennis is an inspirational to many athletes who access the #OYDC facilities. The centre has over 19 sports disciplines which include; Basketball, Taekwondo, Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Rugby, Handball, Hockey and Football.

OYDC hosts Teulings hockey

10 hockey teams this morning took part in the Teulings Hockey league games. The games attracted teams like Arch, Evergreen and City in the under 12 age category. The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge is usually conducted at the #OYDC and runs up to October when the grand finale is hosted.

OYDC hosts high performance football cup

43 Football players on Wednesday were at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) for the high performance “football cup” Games. The teams which train from the Centre impressed OYDC programmes officer Lyson Zulu. Zulu says the numbers and consistence of the performance football unit is encouraging and has urged other aspiring football players from communities surrounding OYDC to come and utilise the multi-sports facility.

OYDC Director Dr. Fredrick Mulenga Chitangala is attending a course in Zimbabwe on Global trends in Sport management and resource mobilization organised by Sports Leaders’ Institute Zimbabwe and LiiKe of Finland. Dr. Chitangala is attending the course together with Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development (MYSCD), Podium Performance Programme (PPP) coordinator Sombwa Knox Musunsa. Young Judoka Zulu, returns home with gold

Simon Zulu showing his gold medal Young Zambian Judoka Simon Zulu, has returned home with a gold medal after participating in the just ended African Cadet Championships in the -60kg Category held in Bujumbura, Burundi. OYDC on Saturday morning hosted the Lions Club, Zone 14 for a tree planting ceremony. The Lions Club, Zone 14 were welcomed by OYDC Director Dr. Fredrick Chitangala.
