Chazanga residents applaud OYDC Zambia and WWF for giving them trees
Some residents of Chazanga Township in Lusaka have applauded the OYDC Zambia and WWF for giving them trees through a project dubbed Sport for Early Environment Education (Sport + Triple E).
One of the residents Sharon Mudima says in 2022 she received a tree which she subsequently planted in her yard and is now growing into a big tree. She says planting a lot of trees in different areas should be done by everyone adding that this will be the only way to help raise awareness of protecting nature and the environment.
Another resident Muyangwa Nyumbu says the avocado tree she collected in 2022 is well taken care of by her family. And opted to collect more trees for her yard.
Saturday, 19 March 2023 several young leaders and members of staff for OYDC Zambia visited some of the areas where 2022 plants were planted. The mission was to check on how the trees are being taken care of and to give more trees to other residents.
OYDC Zambia on Tuesday 29 March 2022 launched the Sport for Early Environment Education (Sport + Triple E) supported by WWF Zambia aimed at raising awareness of environmental education using sport among adolescents.
About 50 people including adolescent athletes, school pupils, coaches, and sports champions underwent training on how to care for the environment.
The trained conservation ambassadors from the OYDC and WWF have planted over 1000 trees at OYDC and in different communities in Lusaka that include Chaisa, Mandevu, Emmasdale, Kabanana, Chazanga, Chipata, Matero and Zingalume.
