NOCZ PRESIDENT FOLOKO CALLS FOR MORE SUPPORT FOR SPORTS FROM THE CORPORATE
National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko has called for more support for the sport by the corporate world so that athletes can continue producing positive results at various major games.
Foloko says the new dawn government through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has continued to support sport adding that more is needed from the corporate world.
He appealed to the corporate last night during the 2022 National Sports Awards held in Lusaka before he presented the winner of the award of ‘Coach of the year – female’ category won by Florence Mwila who is the assistant coach of the copper queens.
Foloko announced that the Olympic movement in Zambia has a busy year ahead as athletes will be preparing to take part in the Commonwealth Youth Games, U18 & U20 African Athletics Championship, African Beach Games, World Beach Games, and 2024 Paris Olympic Games among others.
Speaking earlier the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu MP disclosed that the new dawn government remains resolute to support all kinds of sport in the country.
He announced that more honours were recorded in the year 2022 as the nation amassed over 300 medals.
The minister added that deserving athletes needed to be rewarded for their hard work, dedication and passion for the sport.
Among the notable ones who won awards include; 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games 400m champion Muzala Samukonga as sportsman of the year, Swimmer Jade Phiri as young sportswoman of the year, footballer Grace Chanda as sportswoman of the year, athletics coach Douglas Kalembo, as coach of the year, Kaluba Kakoma as sportsman of the year differently abled.
