OYDC Handball team dominates Teulings
The OYDC boy’s handball team has recorded an impressive performance by dominating the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge in week seven.
Team coach Moses Tonga during weekend games disclosed that his boys have been competing with teams like Silver rest, Bluewood, Kamwala, Msisi, Go Getters, Ndeke, Kasisi, and Chongwe.
Tonga says the games are becoming competitive every single weekend stating that it takes more training to maintain the team’s dominance in the youth league games.
He says the boys who manly are below the age of seventeen if well-nurtured stands a better chance of starting to play for the national team and other local clubs.
Handball is one of the sports disciplines part of the Teulings/OYDC Youth Sports Challenge hosted every weekend at the sports facility.
OYDC Zambia programmes officer Likemore Mahunje, notes that the teams that usually participate in these games are now getting a good representation of girls.
He adds that number of girl’s teams coming to inquire about different sporting activities at the centre is not only encouraging but impressive.
Meanwhile, football, basketball, hockey, and teqball are other games that were hosted.
And while the games were underway National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko in the company of NOCZ Secretary-General Boniface Kambikambi, NOCZ/OYDC Board Member Dickson Jere, Handball Association of Zambia president Victor Banda and OYDC CEO Dr Fredrick Chitangala toured some sports activities and interacted with athletes.
After the tour, NOCZ president Alfred Foloko in his remarks commended OYDC management for accommodating young athletes with special needs who were found playing hockey. Foloko disclosed that every person is equal in the image of God hence the need to see more athletes with special needs compete with others.
