OYDC Zambia, committed to preserve the environment
Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa says prudent management of the environment is a responsibility that every citizen has to share.
In a speech read on his behalf by Rotary Club of Maluba Assistant Governor, Charles Sichangwa, during the tree planting ceremony held on 22 February, 2020 at the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre the mayor said he is passionate about making Lusaka Green and health stating that it is gratifying that the club donated trees that have been planted at the multi-sports Centre. He commended the club for the tree planting and urged others to emulate this noble cause of planting trees in the city.
And National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) President Alfred Foloko, said the committee has resolved to use sport in the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as protection of life on land and climate action adding that every athlete at OYDC Zambia, is receiving environmental education. He thanked the Rotary Club of Maluba for donating the trees which were planted at the Centre.
Meanwhile, Rotary Club of Maluba president Alex Chileshe, disclosed that the tree planting at the OYDC Zambia, was in line with the club´s service projects that Rotary Club of Maluba is implementing in the 2019/2020 Rotary year.
He further said planting trees in the city is a clear emonstration of caring about the environment. The ceremony was witnessed by TeQBall President Dickson Jere, OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Dr. Fred Chitangala, representatives from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Zambia) among others who all joined in planting the over 130 trees.
