OYDC Zambia launches “Play 2 Conserve” Project
OYDC Zambia has launched the “Play 2 Conserve’ Project in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) aimed at promoting conservation and environmental protection using sport.
The launch was done during a one day project training workshop which attracted 35 participants conducted by facilitators from WWF, OYDC Zambia and the Wildlife Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia (WECSZ).
OYDC Zambia, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, announced that the centre has partnered with WWF to deliver conservation messages using sport. He disclosed that conservation ambassadors from OYDC Zambia, are being trained and will be going in communities to sensitize the public on issues to do with the environment.
The launch had representatives from WWF and WECSZ.
The training looked at topics like Conservation and Human rights, Tree planting, Examples of poor waste management, and Environmental problems related to trees.
Role models such as footballer Jimmy Chisenga, footballer Mary Mwakapila, freestyler Cecil Chiila and veteran football administrator Chris Chibuye were part of the training among others.
After the training, participants had the chance to plant trees at the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre.
Meanwhile, OYDC Zambia has donated ten soccer balls to coaches who will be conducting conservation activities in communities. The balls were presented by OYDC Zambia CEO Dr. Fredrick Chitangala.
