Teulings Academy basketball players undergo skills training session
The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) at the weekend hosted 20 Teulings
academy basketball players. The players went through a skills training session in which 8 girls and 12 boys participated.
The Centre has continued to provide a better sporting platform for the youth to develop their skills and subsequently identify their talent.
The players appreciated the exposure the coaches gave them as they were
introduced to new drills, and the interaction they had among themselves stating they want to utilise the 2018 Teulings Youth Sports Challenge games to show the nation that they are future Olympic heroes.
The selected few academy players from Matero Magic, Mapoloto, Mukango,
Badoko, Sport in Action (SIA) and Breathe of Heaven teams participated in the session.
Teulings Basketball coordinator Nicolas Phiri, says “The response from the boys and girls was overwhelming” stating that the Teulings league games for the year 2018 will be tough as most of the teams are more than ready for competition.
Phiri, is hopeful that some of the players who have been training and taking part in the competitive Teulings Youth Sports Challenge will be selected to junior national teams.
The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge has in the last eight years provided over 3000 athletes an opportunity to experience well organised sport training and competition,
which has eventually led to producing high performance athletes.
Teulings project has helped positively change people’s lives and hugely contributed
to the formation of youth leagues that have given a lot of youth the opportunity to
participate in organised and competitive sport both locally and internationally.
