Young Judoka Zulu, returns home with gold
Young Zambian Judoka Simon Zulu, has returned home with a gold medal after participating in the just ended African Cadet Championships in the -60kg Category held in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Zulu, arrived this morning and was welcomed by Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) general secretary Mabvuto N’guni, OYDC Director Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Sports Development officer Major Chisanga Bwalya, National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Administration officer Chipo Mulenga. Zulu was accompanied by national Judo team coach Francis Moola Limipile.
Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) General Secretary Mabvuto N’guni, says the young Judoka has brought glory and honor to the nation by minting gold at a very competitive tournament.
He has paid gratitude to the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development who through the Podium Performance Programme (PPP), ensured that camping and preparations for the tournament were adequately supported at the Olympic Youth Development Centre.
And OYDC Director Dr. Fredrick Chitangala, disclosed that the Centre will continue to make available the state of the art facilities to national sport federations by ensuring that a conducive training and accommodation environment is always maintained.
Meanwhile, gold medalist Simon Zulu, described the Burundi tournament as ‘tough’ and worthy tournament to participate in.
In 2017, Zulu reigned supreme at the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games in Bahamas by winning gold (60Kgs) and bringing honour to Zambia.
The Burundi games were being used as qualifiers to the 2018 Youth Olympic Games slated for Buenos Aires in Argentina.
