ZBF to use Teulings to identify young boxers
Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) National Team Coach Wisdom Mudenda has disclosed that the federation will use the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge to identify young boxers who can be nurtured to become senior pugilist.
Mudenda, says he was impressed with the turnout of teams who brought their athletes at OYDC to take part in the Teulings/OYDC Youth Sports Challenge which was staged on Saturday 3 April, 2021.
The youthful competition attracted over 150 boxers from ten Lusaka based clubs.
“This youthful competition will help ZBF identify young boxers who will be nurtured into medal winners. I recall we had a similar competition here at OYDC some years back and it helped us identify the current African champions Everisto Mulenga, Patrick Chinyemba and Stephen Zimba who are also Tokyo 2020 Olympic bound boxers” he said.
Boxing is among other sports disciplines which were recently added to the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge which the OYDC host every weekend. Other games that took place include handball, rugby and judo. Some of the boxing teams which were present include Exodus, Evergreen, Olympafrica, Buffaloes, Nkwazi, ZNS, Esthers, Pettie, Youth Empowerment and Kunda.
Meanwhile, there was gigantic jubilation in the sports facility as boxers exchanged breath taking punches. The young boxers sized each other in style and this saw teams like Evergreen and Exodus emerge with twelve points each at the end of the bouts.
