ATHLETES IN SMILE AS TEULINGS LEAGUE GETS ANOTHER TWO-YEAR SUPPORT
Beautiful smiles were written on the faces of athletes after it was announced that more support for the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge will continue till the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Teulings Foundation Representative Hans Bertels disclosed during the awards ceremony held on 26 November that Coen Teulings, Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium is happy with the results being yielded by the project since 2011.
He expressed hope that through the extended support some athletes will be able to prepare adequately for the Paris 2024 Olympic games.
And Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu MP in a speech read on his behalf by the permanent secretary in the same Ministry Kangwa Chileshe said the support the Teulings Foundation has rendered to OYDC Zambia has been tremendous and should be appreciated.
He said the government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema attaches great importance to sport and the support private organizations such as the Teulings Foundation provides to facilities like the OYDC Zambia should be emulated by all.
Meanwhile, OYDC Zambia Board Chairperson Simangolwa Shakalima said the board and management are pleased to hear of the extension of the support till 2024 when the nation will be preparing to send athletes to the Paris Olympic Games.
He added that OYDC Zambia through the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge continues to contribute athletes to teams that get to be selected to go to local and international competitions such as the All Africa, Commonwealth, Region 5 and Olympic Games.
The awards ceremony is an annual event where the top outstanding players get to be rewarded and it marks the close of the sporting season at the Centre.
The event was attended by National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Director of Sports John Zulu, OYDC Zambia CEO Dr Fredrick Chitangala, OYDC Zambia Board Member and Teqball Zambia president Dickson Jere, Zambia Basketball Federation General Secretary Rodrick Ndhlovu, Taekwondo Federation president Likando Nagode, Netball Zambia president Martha Sichone, NOCZ Athletes Commission Chairperson Richard Mulenga among others.
