ATHLETES FROM OYDC CLUBS WIN FOUR MEDALS AT THE NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES

Young talented athletes from the OYDC Zambia clubs won four medals at the National Youth Games Zambia 2024 which were staged in Ndola, Copperbelt from 4 to 6 December 2024.

The athletes are from boxing and judo and at the OYDC Zambia they compete in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge a developmental league supported Coen Teulings Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium.

They minted one (1) gold in judo through Mirriam Seulu -63kg, one (1) silver in judo through Obson Banda -55kgs, one (1) silver in boxing through Stanley Mulenga -60kg lightweight category and one (1) bronze in boxing won by Moses Mulenga -57kg featherweight category.

While games were underway in Ndola, other athletes in netball, hockey, and handball were competing at the OYDC Zambia, which was a venue for those hosted in Lusaka.

The 2024 National Youth Games, which attracted athletes from ten provinces, were used to identify and select teams to represent Zambia at next year’s African Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Games, which Namibia will host.

Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu, MP graced the closing ceremony in Ndola and expressed gratitude to athletes, coaches, officials and national federations for their efforts to take part in the games.

The minister further wished those who will be selected for next year’s AUSC Region 5 Games the best of luck as they start their preparations.

Present to witness the closing ceremony was National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Director/CEO Sombwa Musunsa, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Director of Sports John Zulu, Assistant Director Elite Sport in the Ministry Gibson Muyaule, other guests among others.

The games were organised by the National Sports Council of Zambia – NSCZ through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts .
